Dynamic small forward Paul Medhurst and speedster James Walker have agreed to terms to remain with the club until 2007, coming hot on the heels of the re-signings of Brett Peake and Steven Dodd within the last week.
Selected in the 2001 National Draft, Medhurst made his debut in round 1 of 2002 kicking 3 goals against West Coast, equalling the club record for most goals kicked on debut. He finished 2002 with 36 goals to finish equal second behind leading goal scorer Trent Croad. In 2003 he was the club’s leading marksman with 50 and repeated that feat again in 2004 booting 41.
Paul has played 87 games for the club, not missing a game since round 9 2002 (81 consecutive games) and kicked a total of 154 goals. In 2004 he was selected in the WA State of Origin side.
James Walker was the club’s first round selection in the 1997 National Draft (number 6 selection overall) and has gone on to play 133 games since making his debut in round 19 1998.
A model of consistency, James is an unobtrusive player who goes about his work with a minimum of fuss providing plenty of dash from defence. He is one of the first players selected each week and played 87 consecutive games from round 10 2001 until round 7 2005 when injury brought his run to an end. An injury interrupted season saw James only play 13 games in 2005.
One of the fastest men in the competition, James won the AFL Grand Final sprint in 2003 and 2004.
