Zac Clarke responded from a quiet effort in the state competition to earn the WAFL player of the round with a solid all-round performance in East Perth’s win over Perth last Saturday.

Senior Development and Assistant coach Simon Lloyd said that Clarke had played with the intensity and effort expected of an AFL player in the WAFL.

‘We expect him to go back and have a big influence on the game, and to play consistently week in, week out,” Lloyd said.

“On the weekend he showed that he performed to his own expectation and our expectations with strong purpose and effort.”

Lloyd shared his notes on all Freo's players in the WAFL

Zac Clarke (EP) 24 disposals (16 kicks, 8 handballs) 11 marks, 1 goal
Zac played key forward and in the ruck. He led and competed hard as a forward and applied a lot of tackle pressure. He made sure he either marked the ball or halved the contest in the air. In the ruck he showed good aggression and ran really hard on the link up play and provided a big man presence for the long kicks down the line. Overall we though his attitude and effort was outstanding.

Jack Anthony (S) 15 disposals (12 kicks, 3 handballs) 9 marks, 5 goals
Jack played as a forward for the entire game. He showed a really good work rate to get up the ground and provide a target. He kicked five goals, three of those the result of him working high up the ground and beating his opponent back on the lead towards goal. Overall, his positives were his work rate, his leading patterns and his execution by foot.

Sam Menegola (EF) 24 disposals (17 kicks, 7 handballs) 6 marks, 5 tackles

Sam played as a high forward and on the wing. He showed some good run and carry which was the biggest positive of his game. He also showed a strong work rate, particularly in the last quarter. His tackling has improved a lot as the year has progressed and he is continually working on his running patterns.

Josh Mellington (WP) 15 disposals, (10 kicks, 5 marks) 4 goals

Josh played as a high forward. It was his fourth game back and he has steadily built up over those games. On the weekend we saw a better all round effort from Josh. We are seeing that he is covering the ground a lot more comfortably and he is really surging hard on the release. His use was very good and he was able to adapt his run and leading patterns to be able to attract the ball.
