THE Lake Macquarie Dockers will welcome London Olympic sailing gold medallist Iain Jensen on board as the club’s number one ticket holder for the 2013 Black Diamond AFL season.

A former Lake Macquarie player, Jensen spoke at the Dockers’ presentation night to over 110 players and supporters last month and recalled how he and Nathan Outteridge also a former Lake Macquarie player took out the gold medal in the 49er class.

“The regatta went as much to plan as any regatta can go,” he said.

“We had some good results before it and we didn’t do too much out of the ordinary. Somebody would have to do something pretty good to beat us and I think we executed it very well.”

The pair led by more than 20 points, the maximum points on offer for the last race, and was only required to make a legitimate attempt to finish the race to be crowned Olympic champions.

“It was a bit of an anti-climax to be honest, all the elation and stuff like that came two days before when we knew we had it sewn up,” he said.

“I felt pretty privileged just being able to represent my country at the Olympics. I didn’t expect to do it, the four year campaign went by in a flash and time just travels so fast.

“I was really happy just to be there but to bring home a gold medal is probably the experience of my life.”

The club congratulates all trophy winners on the night with the Premier Division Best & Fairest won by Bryce Singleton, with Mitchell Clune runner up. Our 2nd Division had a great year playing in the finals, with the Best & Fairest won by Rawdon Middleton Pier - Point and Jake Ginn returning to the club as runner up.

Under 18’s B&F was won by Jack Robinson closely followed by Mitchell Bradley receiving the runner up trophy.

Greg Halls was awarded the inaugural Fremantle Dockers Community Development award. This award is generated by the Fremantle Dockers to recongnise a player or volunteer that works with the community to promote AFL. Greg is a very deserving recipient of this award.

The club also confirmed 1st Division coach David ‘Beachy’ Beauchamp would return to the role for a second year. Beauchamp praised the commitment and passion of his players and the committee throughout the year and believes, with hard work over the summer period the Dockers will be threatening for finals football in 2013.
