New Fremantle draftee Tanner Smith doesn’t have any issue leaving his home state Victoria to join the Fremantle Dockers in the West.

“I’d go to the moon to play AFL,” the 196cm key position player said.

Smith has been at boarding school for the past 18 months, so he feels well prepared to leave home.

“I’ve got a feeling of what it’s like to be away from home,” he said.

“I’m just stoked to get the opportunity and looking forward to going over to Perth on the weekend.”

Fremantle’s team at the Gold Coast kept young hopefuls on edge when pick 36 came up, taking their time to make the selection.

“I saw the Freo crew thinking about it for a fair while,” he said.

“I couldn’t believe it was for me to be honest.

“I heard my code get read out and I just couldn’t stop running around the house. Everyone was screaming at me. It was unreal.

“I have the opportunity to play AFL at a really good club, which is what I’ve always dreamt of.”
