Live the Dream, which is proudly supported by Decmil is a once in a lifetime opportunity for 16 young Australians to become immersed in the culture of the Fremantle Dockers Football Club and ‘live the life’ of an AFL player for five days.

Live the Dream offers participants a rare opportunity to develop skills and behaviours, which can deliver long-term benefits to the individual and their local community.

The program will include a tour of Fremantle headquarters and Patersons Stadium, an boot camp session at the Irwin Army Barracks located in Karrakatta as well as leadership and health and well being training sessions.

The Live the Dream program commences on Friday 11 July with Fremantle players Paul Duffield, Tommy Sheridan, Hayden Crozier, Stephen Hill, Chris Mayne, Nick Suban, Zac Clarke and Colin Sylvia as the participant’s mentors.

Meet 17-year-old Elaura Wilkinson from Bateman.

She is a second-year SEDA Student and a very successful hockey player.

Elaura believed she would gain numerous skills from the Live the Dream experience.

“I can improve my own teamwork and leadership skills and then be able to take back to my peers what I have learnt throughout the journey,” she said.

Elaura said her idea of leadership was someone who led by example but knew when to take a step back and allow others to learn.

“I consider leaders to be the type of people who listen to others’ ideas and display a positive and determined attitude towards the classroom and all community groups,” she said.

SEDA teacher Ben Walsh said Elaura has always demonstrated a strong willingness to improve and added that Live the Dream would be great for her.

“She has some fantastic leadership qualities and by being involved a program such as Live the Dream, she will have the opportunity to further develop,” he said.
