The AFL today announced a freeze on all ticket prices across the 2014 Toyota AFL Finals Series.

Prices will remain unchanged from last year for each of the four weeks of the 2014 Finals, up to and including the Toyota AFL Grand Final. It is the first time in some two decades that prices have not increased for the AFL’s showpiece game of the season.

In addition, club members who purchase a ticket to see their club play in week one will again be offered a 20 per cent discount to purchase a ticket in week two if their club is competing.

AFL Chief Executive Officer Gillon McLachlan said the AFL wanted as many fans as possible to get to a Finals game to cheer on their team or simply to enjoy football being played at its highest standard as the season comes to a climax.

“The sheer excitement and adrenalin of Finals football has to be experienced first-hand and I’m pleased to announce the AFL has imposed a price freeze on tickets to make it easier for people to share this experience,” McLachlan said.

“We have listened to the concerns of football fans this year around affordability, scheduling and ticketing, and this is the first step in demonstrating the AFL’s resolve to address those concerns.

“The Finals are the pinnacle of the AFL season and include some of the biggest events on the Australian sporting calendar and we want fans to be part of the action this September.

“There is nothing like being at an AFL Final and witnessing live the game’s best players competing in great sporting contests in some of the best venues in the world.”

McLachlan said the Toyota AFL Grand Final already stacked up well in terms of value against other major sporting events in the world and the price freeze across this year’s Finals reinforced efforts to keep Australia’s Game affordable.

“We have always worked hard to minimise price increases for the AFL Finals and also to offer a number of lower-priced seating options and a level of flexibility to accommodate individual demand for particular matches.”

In all markets and venues, entry level seating prices in weeks one and two will remain unchanged; for example the entry level price at the MCG will remain at $40, maintaining the 13 per cent price decrease introduced for the 2013 Finals Series. The entry level price category for a family ticket at the MCG (two adults and two children) is $80 and top tier seating prices will remain unchanged at $85. Prices at other venues will also remain the same as those in 2013.

Week three price categories are also in line with 2013, with entry level seating at the MCG starting from $68 while the top tier price remains at $170 across all venues.

Ticket categories for the 2014 Toyota AFL Grand Final are also frozen, with entry level tickets available for $180 ($153 concession), and top tier tickets remain under $400 ($399 adult, $339 concession).

General Manager, Commercial Operations Darren Birch said the number of seating price categories for finals matches at the MCG would remain unchanged from 2013 when seven categories were introduced to accurately reflect seating positions, provide further pricing options and to maintain affordability for supporters.

“Last year saw us drop the price of entry level MCG seating by 13 per cent over the opening two rounds of the Finals and these prices are on-hold for this year. We are also pleased to again offer a discount of 20 per cent on ticket prices for week two of the finals for those club members who hold a week one ticket,” Birch said.

“Through a number of key changes over the past three seasons, including returning 5,000 Grand Final tickets to fans of the competing clubs and opening up more pricing options across the month of September, we’ve ensured that more fans can experience the excitement of Finals football live.”
