Number three in the top 10 countdown is not any particular moment, but rather recognition of Nat Fyfe’s incredible 2014 season.

The Lake Grace superstar took his game to a new level – a head-shaking prospect for anyone who’d seen his Doig Medal-winning 2013.

When the AFL’s 800-plus players vote you their Most Valuable Player you know you’ve had a good year.

The coaches also liked what they saw from the 23-year-old in 2014, voting him into second place in the AFL Coaches Association MVP award. Port Adelaide’s Robbie Gray passed Fyfe in the final two rounds that he missed through suspension.

Fyfe was picked on the wing in the All Australian team – his first selection in the prestigious representative 22 and, on what we’ve seen, definitely not his last.

He took out Triple M’s Best on Ground prize as well, an award voted on by greats of the game including Garry Lyon, Wayne Carey, Danny Frawley, Mark Ricciuto, Warren Tredrea and Jude Bolton.

And despite missing four games through suspension thisseason, Fyfe very nearly topped the Brownlow Medal count on 25 votes

While he couldn’t win because of his indiscretions, only Matt Priddis’ two votes in the last round prevented the Freo gun from topping the count.

In November, Fyfe will represent Australia against Ireland at Patersons Stadium in the International Rules Series, capping off what could arguably be the greatest individual season in Fremantle Dockers history.

The best part – this champion of the game is only getting started. Well done ‘Fyfey.’
