The AFL has confirmed the opening round fixtures for 2015, with Fremantle to host Port Adelaide at Patersons Stadium on Sunday 5 April.

AFL.com.au has named the fixture as the marquee match of the round, which will take place on Easter Sunday.

Freo has played Port in two of its past three competitive matches, including the 2014 Semi-Final in which the Power stormed home to earn a spot in the Preliminary Final.

AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan told The Age that almost all of the league’s experimental timeslots will be scrapped.

"We've looked at the research and we made the call some time ago that the 2015 fixture will be attendance-focused,” he said.

There will be no Good Friday football and only one bye, with the late start to the season due to the cricket World Cup.

This also means the season will finish later, with the Grand Final to be held on Saturday 3 October.

The AFL will unveil the complete fixture for 2015 on Thursday 30 October.
