There are still tickets available for Neale Daniher’s “MND Charity Sunday Session” this weekend.

A former assistant coach at Fremantle (1995-97), Daniher was diagnosed with motor neurone disease last year. The function is being held from 2pm to 6pm at the Stables Bar, which is part-owned by former Fremantle board member and Daniher’s former Essendon teammate, Tony Buhagiar.

Since the diagnosis, Daniher has made it his aim to do as much as possible to raise both awareness about MND and funds for research into a cause and a cure.

He has been heavily involved in the production of an MND awareness video, which features Fremantle defender Paul Duffield and other AFL stars.

Duffield's involvement followed the death of a close friend’s father, who had battled MND for two years.

“It’s something I feel passionate about and something I want to grow and help with in terms of awareness and support for people as well,” Duffield said.

“If I can play a little part in that, that would be great.

“You’ve got six weeks to two years once you’re diagnosed. I can only think about myself in that situation and the things that I haven’t done yet and the amount of things I want to do, whether it be getting married, starting a family and all those sorts of things and how quickly your whole life could be changed.

“Your perception of what you think is important is affected very quickly. To see family and friends go through it is very, very tough. For all the people affected, it is a very tough situation.”

The cornflower is the floral emblem of the MND awareness campaign, and guests attending Sunday’s fundraiser at 888 Hay Street in the city are encouraged to wear a “splash of cornflower blue”.
