Fremantle will use Sunday’s final NAB Challenge hit-out against West Coast as a dress rehearsal for round one, according to captain Matthew Pavlich.

A combined total of 717 games of AFL experience are among the ins for Freo, with Luke McPharlin, Aaron SandilandsDanyle Pearce and Lee Spurr added to the 27-man squad.

It will be Freo’s first game on Domain Stadium (formerly Patersons Stadium) for 2015 and Pavlich is looking forward to some more game time.

MATCH PREVIEW

“I’ve really only played just over a half in both NAB Challenge games,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to a few more minutes again and playing a full game or thereabouts and getting ready for round one.

“The team is looking to improve again.

We gave a pretty solid showing up in Sydney against the Swans, but we really want to hit our straps leading into round one.”

Freo will open the season proper at home to Port Adelaide on Easter Sunday for the annual Starlight Purple Haze game.

While Matt Taberner wasn’t selected for Sunday’s match after missing the Sydney contest with general soreness, Pavlich is still looking forward to combining with the youngster once he’s back playing.

“I think it should (help me),” Pavlich said.

“Matt’s a different player to me, but clearly as a tall key forward who can run, he’s mobile, he can present up the ground and can certainly take a contested mark.

“He alleviates some level of pressure, but that’s the same as when our forward line is functioning at its best.

“Anytime you’ve got six forwards who the opposition need to monitor and take care of, it certainly poses a threat.

“Matt’s one of those players and he certainly has developed.”

Bounce down against West Coast is 4.10pm on Sunday.
