Freo midfielder Lachie Neale liked what he saw against West Coast in Sunday’s NAB Challenge win, but believes there is room for improvement.

The 21-year-old believes goal kicking accuracy let the team down a bit and will be an area to improve on before taking on Port Adelaide in round one.

“It was a really impressive performance (against West Coast),” Neale said.

“Last week against Sydney probably wasn’t what we were after, but we sort of focused on ball movement a lot this week.

“We came in and kicked a winning score and scored over 100 points.

“We missed some really easy shots as well, kicking strongly was one of our main focuses coming into today.”

Neale said the team had done some extra work on goal kicking and will need to improve before the season opener in less than a fortnight.

“We have been doing a lot of practice on that (goal kicking) and it was a little bit disappointing,” he said.

“We just have to stick to our routines and hopefully we can turn that around.”

With no AFL game this weekend, Neale said that not too much will change in terms of how Freo prepares for taking on Port.

“We’ll still get in a solid block of training and as we get closer to the game it will taper off a little,” he said.

“But we’ll recover from the game and get through some solid sessions over the next couple of weeks and get everyone prepared for round one, I can’t wait.”

Fremantle takes on Port Adelaide on Easter Sunday, 5 April, for the annual Starlight Purple Haze game.

Bounce down at Domain Stadium (formerly Patersons Stadium) is 4.40pm WST.
