Fremantle’s tough pre-season is paying dividends after an undefeated start to the season, according to senior coach Ross Lyon.

The team heads into Sunday’s clash with Melbourne at the MCG as the only remaining undefeated team in the competition with four wins.

Hard decisions loom for Freo

The streak includes wins over last year’s finallists Port Adelaide and Geelong, and last year’s Grand Finallist Sydney on Saturday.

Lyon told Channel 9’s The Sunday Footy Show that the club made some changes to pre-season training and workload.

“We vindicated our hard work over summer,” he said.

“We’d always done a Monday to Friday pre-season and given the lads weekend off.

“It gave us another morning of running and we gave them a day of during the week.

“It gave us more volume of work but seems to be paying dividends.”

Lyon said he even revised his coaching style, delegating more roles to his coaching staff.

“I’ve delegated more…I hardly took a drill (over summer),” he said.

“I’m learning to delegate and manage better.”
