‘Like I’m 18 again’…Crowley back at training for first time since drug ban

The West Australian

A smiling Ryan Crowley gave the thumbs up to a small group of cheering fans as he returned to the training track at Fremantle Oval this morning.

Cold and wet conditions greeted Crowley as he rejoined teammates two months out from a possible return to the Fremantle side - potentially on preliminary final weekend.

A handful of fans were on hand to welcome back the popular 31-year-old, loudly clapping and encouraging him as he emerged from the rooms and went back inside at the end of the light session.

Crowley had not been allowed at the club since his 12-month ban for breaching the AFL’s anti-doping code was handed down in June, but has been completing his own training program away from Dockers’ headquarters.

The tagger looked fit and happy as he joined in a light session with some of the 22 players who overcame Richmond by four points at the MCG on the weekend.

Forgotten Docker Ryan Crowley took the first steps towards an unlikely finals comeback after joining his teammates at training on Tuesday morning

The 31-year-old returned to the track two months out from his year-long suspension for breaching the AFL’s anti-doping code being lifted.

Crowley is not eligible for senior selection until preliminary final weekend, meaning Ross Lyon and the selection committee would have to take a considerable risk – should Fremantle make it that far – in picking a player who has not appeared in a senior game all season.

Crowley said he had overcome nerves ahead of rejoining his teammates at training.

The game has a brand new No.1 player

AFL.com.au

There is a new undisputed No.1 player in the AFL and his name is Nat Fyfe.

That is the verdict delivered by the Official AFL Player Ratings after the Fremantle star edged ahead of Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury following the 21.5 points he notched in Saturday's game against Richmond.

Fyfe (657.9 points) has overtaken Pendlebury (652.4) for the Player Ratings title, with Adelaide's Patrick Dangerfield (607.6), Joel Selwood (589) and Rory Sloane (571.6) rounding out the top five.

Fyfe has a lead of 5.4 points over his nearest rival and under the complexities of the system – which involves players 'defending' points accrued in past matches – Pendlebury would need to outscore him by 8.9 points to regain the advantage.

Fyfe is the top-scoring player in the AFL in 2015, racking up a total of 316.8 points.

Fremantle star Nat Fyfe is favourite to take Charlie home in September, but just who will he be taking along to the famous ceremony?

The 23-year-old revealed on the weekend that there is a dream date on the wish list — homegrown Hollywood starlet Margot Robbie.

Robbie, whose humble beginnings are rooted in Ramsay Street, has caught the eye of football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in recent weeks, with the Real Madrid sharpshooter liking a number of her photos on Instagram.

And Fyfe, who is single, admits the Portuguese player may well outdo him in the dating stakes.

“I was (going to ask her),” he said on Channel 7.

“That was until I heard Cristiano was in town (in Melbourne last week).”

Host Hamish McLachlan said he’d do his best to get in contact with The Wolf of Wall Street and Suicide Squad actress’ agent, who Channel 7 has had dealings with.

“I don’t think she’d come, to be honest,” Fyfe said.
