Fremantle player Shane Yarran advised the club late Tuesday that he had been charged with aggravated common assault.

Police will allege the incident involved a family member and occurred at the weekend.

The 27-year-old, who is on leave and due to appear in court next month, also advised the club that he intends to plead not guilty.

Fremantle chief executive Steve Rosich said: “As the matter, which Shane advised the club of yesterday, is now before the courts, the club will not comment beyond this statement until the matter is resolved.

“An allegation of this nature is treated with the utmost seriousness by the club and we will continue to monitor the legal process closely.”

The club has advised the AFL of the matter.

Yarran is due to resume official preseason training next week.
