SUMMARY
Hill hardly missed a game in yet another excellent season that saw the 26-year-old nish second in the Doig Medal. The versatile running midfielder is eyeing time on the inside in 2017, as well as featuring on the opposite wing as younger sibling, Bradley. Has played 172 games in eight seasons, averaging 21.5 games a year.

WHAT THE COACH SAYS (Anthony Rock)
Stephen has had a really strong pre-season. We’d like to see him play a mixture of roles in 2017 and continue his leadership.

Season by Season

Season by Season

Another standout year saw the running midfielder finish second in the Doig Medal for the club’s best and fairest. Instrumental in Freo’s round 23 win over the Bulldogs with nine marks and 30 disposals.

Hill rose to another level again in 2015 with career bests in disposals. He proved his value as a key midfielder and was acknowledged with an inclusion in the 40-man All Australian squad.

Hill enjoyed arguably his most consistent season, averaging career highs in disposals and goals per game. He’s a game-changer and will continue to grow.

Hill threatened to take over games throughout the season with his blistering pace and sublime skill. He will continue to search for the consistency that will take him to the next level.

Stephen Hill had a solid season in 2012 but is still searching for the consistency that would make him a bona fide superstar of this league.

Lit up St Kilda in the second half of the round 4 game at Etihad Stadium and finished the year off strongly, including a 28-possession effort in Freo’s big win over North Melbourne in round 22.

Hill made winning his own ball a major focus going into 2012 and it showed statistically, with his 8.4 contested possessions and 3.1 hand-ball gets per game this season an increase from the 6.9 and 2.5 he averaged in 2011.

The addition of Port speedster Danyle Pearce, also a left footer, could help Hill continue to liberate himself from the attention of taggers.

The exciting Hill had a slightly disappointing season compared to the lofty heights he reached in 2010. He struggled slightly with the attention opposition coaches placed on stopping his output, although this invariably freed up other Freo stars as Hill more often than not got the best tagger. He had the most running bounces (37) at the club by a long way in 2011, and finished top five in almost all of the most important statistical indicators, including total disposals (385), uncontested possessions (239), total kicks (213), long kicks (61), total handballs (136), loose ball gets (55), inside 50s (73) and score assists (21). As Hill grows more accustomed to being a marked man, he moves one step closer to a breakout season. Watch this space.

Hill was one of the most exciting players to watch in the AFL in 2010. His daring runs and penetrating left foot made him a human highlight reel. One of his finest games came in round 7, when he had 32 possessions in Freo's first ever victory at the Gabba. Hill still has plenty of room for improvement, which is a scary thought for the rest of the AFL. Look out for this budding young star in 2011.
