For two years, Emma O’Driscoll has been sitting on a hidden talent that she’s ready to unleash on game days in front of the Purple Army.

Following one night on the track, O’Driscoll took her opportunity to unveil a perfect backflip on the unsuspecting Hayley Miller and her teammates.

“I was just going about my own business, turn around and there’s Drisco flipping in the air, full on run up, cartwheel, plant your feet. Amazing,” Miller said in a special pre-season edition of the Kickin’ Back podcast.

Drafted in 2019, O’Driscoll said her teammates were shocked that she had waited so long to show off at training.

“Everyone’s asked me why I hadn’t done it before, but how do you just bring it up to the group? ‘Hey guys, I can actually do a backflip. Want to see it?’” O’Driscoll said.

“I feel like I haven’t had the opportunity until now. Then on a random Thursday night session, I’m not too tired, I’m going to flip one out.”

O’Driscoll isn’t expecting her maiden AFLW goal to come anytime soon so she instead hopes to unveil the celebration after a win.

Fremantle’s first opportunity will be on a Saturday night in round one at Fremantle Oval on 8 January against Adelaide.

“It doesn’t have to be a goal celebration. I’ve said I’ll do one for every win we get,” O’Driscoll said.

“I’ll hold you to that, it was amazing,” Miller replied.

Both Miller and O’Driscoll spoke about their hard work away from the Club during their off-season – inspired by the running programs set by High Performance Manager Kate Starre.

“What was I doing in the off-season? It was running Kate’s four-by 300m runs, then 200s, then four laps recovery which wasn’t recovery as you had to run it all in five minutes. And then do another 2km time trial at the end,” O’Driscoll said.

“That’s what I was doing, it was hard!”

Miller agreed that the sessions were both difficult and beneficial.

“We have a lot of love for Kate but her running programs are a bit ridiculous. We’re the fittest we’ve ever been, I’m definitely the fittest I’ve ever been,” Miller said.

O’Driscoll agreed – “You have worked your bum off this off-season and it’s really shown. You’ve come back with the biggest double cobras I’ve ever seen.

“You’ve obviously reflected in your 2km time as well and out on the track, you’re able to utilise your leadership skills more as your fitness is there.”
