Fremantle have capped off a massive year of Freo Footprints with a final session held at Cannington Leisureplex with a stack of AFLW stars like Kara Antonio and Gemma Houghton.

The pair joined Freo Footprints coaches Aine Tighe and Mim Strom at the final session, bringing an end to the seven-week program.

Alongside Tighe and Strom, livewire Roxy Roux, second-year player Maggie MacLachlan and draftee Airlie Runnalls have been on hand throughout the year to deliver the sessions to the kids.

On the AFL front, David Mundy, Bailey Banfield, Michael Frederick, Brandon Walker, Josh Treacy, Liam Henry, Michael Walters and Joel Western have all visited to lend a hand in 2021.

Freo Footprints is one of Freo’s newest programs delivered across all four school terms, with an aim to target the youngest of Freo fans aged two-to-four years old to participate in fun activities centred around the fundamental movement skills of running and jumping.

It’s even seen the young children of Walters and AFLW senior coach Trent Cooper involved in the fun.

The parent-led aspect to the program sees the child’s parent/guardian remain with the child and join in on the activities, with an aim to progress motor skills essential in a child’s development.

For their involvement in the program, children also received an exclusive Freo Footprints membership which includes a player appearance (schedule and availability pending), an FFC apparel item and giveaways.

Houghton said that being part of the program had been a fantastic experience.

“I think it’s really special, I have a young niece who is three and she absolutely loves footy,” Houghton said.

“To see young kids grasp onto footy and just see the happiness and confidence that it brings them in such a young age is awesome.

“Who knows? Maybe in the years to come we will have some stories come out that they attended a Footprints when they were younger and now they are getting drafted to the Club.

“It’s awesome that these kids are able to be engaged with footy at such a young age and are able to gain an understanding of it.”

The Club is very excited to announce the program will run once again in 2022 and is due to start on the third week of February at five different venues in Mandurah, Cockburn, Craigie, Loftus and Melville!
