Kara Antonio and Airlie Runnalls pose in front of their Victorian family and friends after Fremantle's win against Richmond.

Freo veteran Kara Antonio has praised her teammates for handling an emotional week and leaving nothing on the track after a resounding 30-point win against Richmond at the Swinburne Centre on Saturday.

Fremantle kicked five goals in the final term – including maiden AFLW goals to Aine Tighe and Makaela Tuhakaraina – to put the result to bed and maintain an unbeaten record three rounds into the NAB AFL Women’s Competition.

The former captain, who contributed two of Fremantle’s 11 goals, said the players stood tall amid the border uncertainty that could affect when the team returns home to WA.

“It’s a lot more than just a game to us now, we’re on the road for god knows how many weeks and we’re obviously playing our part for the competition and we’ve all had to sacrifice something and leave something at home,” Antonio told Fox Footy.

“The win means a lot more than what most people would think.”

Antonio said Freo’s frantic final quarter was a sign of the team’s ability to deliver near the best for a full game.

She praised the midfield, which was led by superstar Kiara Bowers – delivering a career-high equalling 28 disposals as well as 16 tackles and nine clearances.

“(Coming home strong) was our focus at half time, we knew that it takes a four-quarter effort to win a game of footy and I’m just really proud of the girls,” Antonio said.

“The midfield were fantastic and really stepped up in that last quarter.

“It really helps when you win centre clearances and get clean ball into your forward 50.”

Antonio said she was pleased to return to her best after being managed for Freo’s round two win against GWS.

“It’s good to be back and it’s nice to be able to come in and play my part for the team and get on the end of a few,” Antonio said.

“I thought the Tiges were fantastic for three quarters and we were able to run out that last one pretty convincingly, which was nice.”
