‘Every day growth’ has been the key for Fremantle defender Alex Silvagni, who is set to line-up for his 50th AFL game in this Sunday’s Carlton Draught Derby.

Silvagni, who was drafted as a mature-aged recruit at pick number 24 in the 2010 Rookie Draft, said he never thought he would reach the 50-game milestone.

“It’s fantastic, every game’s a bonus,” Silvagni said.

“I never thought I was going to be here, I never thought I was going to play one game, let alone 50.

“Every day you want to grow yourself, you want to be a better person than you were yesterday.

“I love the club for giving me the opportunity, and I just want to put my best foot forward.”

Silvagni often takes the opposition’s key forward and in the round 19 clash with Sydney, he matched up with Lance Franklin, keeping him to just two goals for the game.

“It’s challenging, I just try and do what I can do,” Silvagni said.

“You want to pit yourself against the best in the competition.

“You might win some, you might lose some, but you continue to grow and continue to go from there.”

Silvagni will be joined by Fremantle utility Hayden Crozier as they both line up for game 50 against West Coast at Domain Stadium on Sunday at 2:40 AWST.
