Versatile Fremantle forward/midfielder Bailey Banfield said Fremantle would aim to continue delivering the same high-energy football that saw them run out 82-point winners against North Melbourne at Optus Stadium on Sunday.

Fremantle scored 91 points from turnovers for the game, which was 16 more than any other team in round one.

Banfield said the team helped ride the wave of energy from the 40,000 fans in attendance.

“It was really exciting. The crowd got behind us and there was really good energy out there,” Banfield said.

“Our pressure was a real focus for us coming in. Really getting after them and we picked a team that would be able to do that. It was really pleasing to be able to deliver on game day.”

Banfield said he hopes Fremantle can keep the momentum going into round two when Fremantle take on Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium on Sunday.

“Gold Coast are going to play a different brand of footy to North,” Banfield said.

“We had really good energy out there and the message was that we have to bottle that and bring it again next week as we have another big challenge.”

Banfield said the pressure all around the ground helped make life easier for Fremantle’s defenders to get their job done.

“Our defence was really good and a part of that comes from the pressure around the forward line and midfield,” Banfield said.

“Getting those high balls in, and it really gives our defenders a chance to defend. They were really happy with the pressure up the ground and they did a stellar job as well themselves.”
