Fremantle have bolstered their defensive and forward stocks for the future with key position players Griffin Logue and Cam McCarthy signing new deals with the club.

Logue has inked a three-year extension, which will see him at the club until at least the end of the 2022 season.

McCarthy has signed a one-year extension for the 2020 season.

Logue has played 17 games for Fremantle since joining the club in the 2016 NAB AFL National Draft at selection no.8.

He made his return to AFL football in round 13 of the 2019 season after more than 18 months out due to multiple injuries.

Fremantle list manager Mark Micallef said that Logue was starting to show his potential at Freo.

“Griffin has showed some elite athletic attributes that we think will hold him in really good stead going forward,” Micallef said.

“We feel he can work really well with Joel Hamling and Alex Pearce as our key defensive pillars and we see really high growth with Griffin, so we thought a three-year extension with him was a great result for the club.

“Griffin’s had a few injury setbacks over his time but we think he’s well past that now and we think he will be able to put his best foot forward. We obviously drafted him very highly and we think he’s someone who is going to be a very good player for the Fremantle Football Club.”

McCarthy has kicked 16 goals for Fremantle from nine appearances in 2019, including hauls of five goals against North Melbourne and four against Carlton.

Micallef said that McCarthy’s hard work off the field is paying dividends on the field.

“Cam had a really strong pre-season and he’s been able to kick some bags of goals for us,” Micallef said.

“He’s someone who is highly talented and he’s able to make things happen in the forward line.

“He’s applied himself week-in-week-out and we think his best football is ahead of him.”
