Fremantle leader David Mundy says he and his teammates are eager for the resumption of the AFL, no matter the format.

Due to the West Australian government’s current stance on interstate travel, which requires all arrivals to self-isolate for 14 days, Mundy admitted it was difficult to see a scenario that involved games being played in Perth when the league resumes.

He said the Fremantle players would not focus on any perceived disadvantage of a temporary move interstate.

“It (moving interstate to play) would certainly be difficult but I know all the players at Fremantle that I’ve spoken to, we’re all up for the challenge,” Mundy told ABC radio.

“It’s all hypothetical at the moment and a bit of guess work, so we’ll wait until the AFL tell us the lay of the land and we’ll figure out how we’ll go about it from there.”

A father of three, Mundy said he and his wife Sally are already planning for the potential scenario.

“Any time away is tough, even within a regular season when we’re away for three or four days,” Mundy said.

“We’ll face those challenges as a family and devise our own strategies to cope.

“It’s been in the press that some families might travel and there are other mechanisms that we can pull as a family to help manage and help my wife look after our children.”

Mundy gave an update on defender Alex Pearce, who underwent further surgery on his injured ankle on Wednesday.

“Alex messaged me this morning and said he was out of surgery and he’s alright,” Mundy said.

“He’s pulled up pretty well and woken up really well from it this morning.

“It’s hugely disappointing for Alex and his family and us, as his Fremantle family.

“Hopefully, his recovery goes well. I know Alex is a really strong character and has a really strong spirit. I’m sure he’ll bounce back and push through this ok.”
