Fremantle captain Nat Fyfe will likely miss just one to two weeks of football after scans confirmed a low-grade hamstring injury, according to high performance manager Jason Weber in this week’s Envision Medical Imaging injury update.

Fyfe injured his hamstring in the third quarter of Fremantle’s clash with Gold Coast on Saturday at Metricon Stadium.

The midfielder underwent scans on Monday that confirmed limited damage to his right hamstring.

“Nat’s scan’s been quite positive, he’s got a small amount of damage, very much to the outside of the muscle so we’ve only listed him as one to two weeks,” Weber said.

“(The duration of the injury) will really depend on how he pulls up. Nat’s quite the consummate professional, he heals well and looks after himself so we’ll be challenging Nat all the way along.”

In promising news for Sam Sturt, the forward could return to playing as soon as this Sunday’s clash with Adelaide after recovering quicker than expected from an ankle injury.

“Sam’s progressed really well, he had quite a challenging ankle/foot injury,” Weber said.

“You can give the young man kudos to the amount of effort he put into the rehab process. He’ll be a genuine test this week.”

Weber said both Stephen Hill and Sean Darcy have pulled up well from their returns to football on Saturday.

While Hill played against Gold Coast in the AFL, Darcy took part in a practice match for non-selected players on Saturday morning between a combined Fremantle-Port Adelaide side and Gold Coast.

“Stephen pulled up fantastically, I just walked past him on the training paddock, he feels good and looks forward to another go this week,” Weber said.

“Sean played strongly and took part in an extra running session after the game to get more volume, so he’ll train with the team this week and be available for match committee.”

Weber said midfielder Blake Acres will return to team training this week and will be a test to play his first game for Fremantle as he recovers from a calf injury.

Defender Alex Pearce (ankle) is now out of the moon boot while forward Sam Switkowski (back) is progressing.

“Alex is out of the boot and walking around,” Weber said.

“Sam’s doing really well. We got him on the field after the reserves game and he trained really hard.

“He’s a little bit off from playing football yet but he’s being really positive about it as he’s certainly making some gains.”

Weber said defender Joel Hamling was receiving further treatment on his ankle.

“Joel’s having some ongoing investigations into his ankle,” Weber said.

“There’s been some well documented challenges but his attitude is strong and we’ll get him moving as soon as we can.”

Midfielder Stefan Giro is expected to miss three to five weeks due to his ankle injury sustained a week ago.

“Stef’s got a syndesmosis injury, he’s had some investigations through the week,” Weber said.

“He’s out of the boot and walking. He obviously has a great attitude and is training really well. We look forward to seeing him back as soon as we can.”
