Fremantle midfielder Andy Brayshaw felt a great sense of pride for senior coach Justin Longmuir and his young teammates after Freo secured their first win of the season against Adelaide at Metricon Stadium on Sunday.

Speaking on Fox Footy post-match, Brayshaw said it was pleasing to watch youngsters like Hayden Young, Caleb Serong and Sam Sturt notch up their first AFL win.

Brayshaw played arguably his best game for the season, finishing with 23 disposals, eight marks, five tackles and a game-high 106 AFL Fantasy points.

“I’m pretty stoked, there's a few boys who haven’t had a win yet for the Dockers until today, so I’m really proud for them,” Brayshaw said.

“I’m proud for the whole team and especially proud for ‘JL’.

“He’s worked really hard and to finally get a win for him, we’re pretty happy.”

In the absence of Nat Fyfe, Michael Walters stepped up as stand-in captain for the clash.

Brayshaw said the experience and nous of both Walters and fellow leader David Mundy are a crucial component to Freo’s structure.

“It’s pretty awesome, they are great leaders and great players,” Brayshaw said.

“I feel pretty honoured to play with Dave and Sonny and, hopefully, we get Fyfey back soon.”

Brayshaw said Longmuir used the three-quarter-time break to reinforce the message of attacking through the corridor.

The 20-year-old felt the reminder from Longmuir went a long way to sealing the win in the final quarter.

“(The message was to) try and own the corridor as much as we could,” Brayshaw said.

“When they were slicing us through the middle, they were scoring, so we really tried to lock it down through the middle and force them wide.

“(We had) composed possession, and we were able to hold onto it and use it pretty well.

“I think that helped us in the last quarter and got us the win.”
