Seven Fremantle players were in action in the WAFLW preliminary final between Subiaco and Swan Districts held on Saturday at Leederville Oval.

As 45-point winners, Swan Districts advanced to the WAFLW Grand Final against East Fremantle.

The game will be played on Saturday 14 September at 2.35pm at Lathlain Park, and will be broadcast live into Perth on Channel 7 and ABC radio (720AM).

Senior coach Trent Cooper runs through his thoughts on the preliminary final.

Subiaco 2.5 (17) def by Swan Districts 9.8 (62)

Swan Districts were far too strong for Subiaco - they’ve been building into some really good form this finals series. It was unfortunate for Subi, who did finish as minor premiers but they ran into a red hot East Fremantle in the first week and then an even hotter Swan Districts.

Conditions were perfect on the day, which really suited Swan Districts’ pace.

Gemma Houghton and Ebony Antonio (Swan Districts)
Gemma was influential up forward with three goals and she gave another one off. She was in excellent form and her chase and pressure was fantastic. She combined well with Ebony Antonio, who didn’t hit the scoreboard but she was in most of Swan Districts’ goals. It was probably Ebony’s best game for the year, which was pleasing to see.

Ange Stannett (Swan Districts)
Ange continued her good form as an inside mid. She drove the ball forward plenty of times for Swans. She’s been really consistent in the back half of the year.

Stephanie Cain and Ashley Sharp (Swan Districts)
The two wings were really influential. Steph continues her solid form. Ashley had her best game for the year, she kicked a goal from well outside 50 and she gave a lot of run. Both girls helped out the defence and they’re really building into the grand final.

Hayley Miller (Subiaco)
Hayley was almost the best player on the ground. She was outstanding and backed up her regular season form that saw her win the Dhara Kerr Medal as the best player in the WAFLW. She couldn’t have done any more for her team.

Lindal Rohde (Subiaco)
Lindal was a little bit quieter and I think the step up for the finals series has been a great learning curve for her. That will hold her in good stead for the AFLW season - we’ve been rapt with what she’s done this year and she was rewarded with the rookie of the year in the WAFLW awards on Monday.

Next week…the Grand Final
East Fremantle v Swan Districts
We’re really looking forward to the grand final this weekend. Those five Swans players will all go around as well as Evie Gooch, Gabby O’Sullivan and Philipa Seth from East Fremantle. There might be some interesting matchups and it will be exciting if we get to see some Freo teammates play on each other. We’re expecting fine conditions and we’re really looking forward to an entertaining affair. We’ll have at least three Freo players who are WAFLW premiers after the game!
