It was a really important round for the WAFLW with four of the six teams fighting for three finals spots.

Peel Thunder 5.5 (35) def Claremont 3.8 (26)
Peel took on Claremont with the loser possibly being eliminated and it proved to be that way.

Laura Pugh (Claremont)
Laura continued her outstanding form and she would be disappointed to be knocked out of finals contention. She was very good again and we’re rapt with her form this year, I think she will poll well in the WAFLW best and fairest.

East Fremantle 3.8 (26) def Swan Districts 3.5 (23)
East Fremantle had to win to stay in and they managed to do that by three points against Swan Districts, who had dominated a lot of the day.

Gabby O’Sullivan (East Fremantle)
Gabby was outstanding again for East Fremantle, working super hard across half forward and kicked the winning goal. She’s been in really good form for a few weeks now.

Alex Williams (East Fremantle)
Alex continues to get better each week. She played an anchor role and despite numerous inside 50s for Swan Districts, she was part of a defence that managed to keep them to a low score. We’re really pleased with how she’s coming along.

Bianca Webb (Swan Districts)
Bianca had a really good first quarter and was one of the reasons why Swans were in front early. But she copped a nasty head knock and her eye blew right up. She battled on for the rest of the day but didn’t have the same impact after the injury. It was still a serviceable game.

Ashley Sharp (Swan Districts)
It was pleasing to see Ashley back to her good form. She was involved in all of Swan Districts goals, either kicking or setting them up. She used her penetrating run and kick to advantage and was a prime mover for Swan Districts. She’s just working on her fitness to do that over four quarters rather than just in bursts at the moment. It’s pleasing to see her back to something like her best form this week.

Subiaco 6.11 (47) def South Fremantle 5.3 (33)
This game didn’t have any bearing on the make-up of the finals with top against bottom. Subiaco’s three Fremantle players Hayley Miller, Ange Stannett and Janelle Cuthberton were all rested with a big finals campaign coming up.
As Subiaco were low on numbers, Amy Lavell pulled on the boots and kicked three goals, which shows she’s still got it!

Mim Strom (South Fremantle)
Mim was outstanding for Souths. She’s really developing well. She played ruck but also centre half back and centre half forward. She presented well, took some really good contested marks and rucked well. We’re really happy with her development from the few games she’s played with South Fremantle. That’s the end of her WAFLW season and we’re really happy with what she’s achieved out of it.

The finals kick off this weekend. Subiaco take on Peel Thunder for a spot in the Grand Final. The loser will play the winner of East Fremantle and Swan Districts the following week for the final GF spot.
