David Mundy and wife Sally arrive at the 2020 Doig Medal

After turning back the clock on the field in 2020, David Mundy appears to have also turned back the clock at the Doig Medal Presentation Dinner, sporting a new haircut at Crown Perth.

In Justin Longmuir’s address to the room the senior coach joked about how young the 35-year-old looked after he cut his locks.

Longmuir once again said he hoped to see the veteran midfielder to play on.

“When I first came to the club I expected to see David Mundy in a walking frame! He’s just had a haircut and he looks 25 so I think he’s going to hit Belly (Peter Bell) up for a 10 year contract,” Longmuir said.

Longmuir added that he’s been thrilled with how Freo’s senior players are helping bring through the younger generation.

“I’ve been really impressed with all of our players and their willingness to impart their experience and knowledge on the younger players,” Longmuir said.

“Our younger players, they’ve been like sponges and they’ve come to the footy club wanting to improve every week.

“I think all of our younger players have improved this year and that looks good for next year.”

While the Freo fans couldn’t be at the event due to a reduced capacity under Covid-19 regulations, Longmuir praised the club’s supporters for their dedication.

“Our supporters have been enormous this year,” Longmuir said.

“They’ve helped us get into a strong and positive position going into next year.

“Their passion drives us as a playing group and a coaching staff to be the best we can be.”

Longmuir also paid tribute to the players’ wives and partners for their patience and support as the players spent significant time in Queensland in their hubs in Gold Coast and Cairns.

“I want to thank the partners of the footy staff and the players,” Longmuir said.

“We’ve been away for about 10 weeks this year and the support you gave us while we were away was enormous.”
