Fremantle’s next two fixtures have been rescheduled with Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs to become Freo’s opponents for their next two games of the 2022 NAB AFL Women’s season.

The Collingwood clash has been brought forward by three days for a Thursday twilight match on 27 January at Victoria Park, after originally being scheduled for Sunday 30 January.

Bouncedown will be at 5.40pm AEDT (2.40pm WST).

Fremantle’s round 10 clash against the Bulldogs has been brought forward to Tuesday 1 February at VU Whitten Oval, with bouncedown at 7.10pm AEDT (4.10pm WST).

With Fremantle playing the game in between rounds four and five, the game will continue to be considered a round 10 clash. At this stage, Fremantle’s round five clash against North Melbourne on Sunday 6 February is currently going ahead as scheduled.

Senior coach Trent Cooper said it was an exciting opportunity that the fixture reshuffle allows Fremantle to play one extra game while on its extended road trip in Victoria.

“We’re excited about the prospect of an extra game whilst here in Victoria,” Cooper said.

“We have got a really healthy squad and feel that we bat quite deep, so it will be great to give some opportunities to players who haven’t played as of yet while we manage the squad.

“We think we are capable of being able to produce some really good football over the next few games.”

AFL general manager competition management Laura Kane said the AFL remains committed to delivering a full season in a safe manner anchored in the advice of respective governments and public health officials.

“We remain committed to completing the season and awarding a premier and the updates to the fixture aim to provide the competition with greater flexibility as we progress the season,” Kane said.

“The decision to schedule additional matches to the fixture for Fremantle and the West Coast Eagles was made in close consultation and with strong support from each club following updates to border restrictions relating to Western Australia.

“We remain cognisant of the outside-football commitments of many players and staff from WA who are currently on the road in Victoria, and we thank them for their commitment and understanding.

“The league will continue to work closely with each club and the AFLPA, and will remain led by the advice of respective state governments and relevant health authorities as we work through arrangements for the coming rounds. I want to thank the AFLPA for working with us to provide the flexibility required to progress the season.

“For the time being, the fixture remains a week-to-week proposition, and as such, we want to thank every AFLW Club, players and the AFLPA, umpires, venues, governments, ticketing agents and all supporters for their understanding.”

Both of the rescheduled matches will be broadcast live nationally on Fox Footy, and also streamed live on Kayo and the AFL Women’s app.
