AFLW Senior Coach Lisa Webb spoke to the media after Walyalup's promising 24-point win against St Kilda, with nothing but praise for her team.

“(I am) proud of the girls, and we’ve been talking up how much we really want to make a statement and how much we really want to improve," Webb said.

"We did that today, so now it’s about doing that for the next two weeks as well."

Coming off the back of two losses in rounds six and seven, Webb was proud of the effort on display against St Kilda.

“The girls have been working really hard, and sometimes with that strong effort and work rate you don’t get the results, but I’m really pleased we were able to get them today,” Webb said.

“The effort they (the team) bring week in, week out – we had it over the last few weeks, and unfortunately we haven’t got the four points, so that’s why I’m really pleased for the girls today.

“I’m always proud of them, but just great that they got some reward with the four points.”

Walyalup were thrilled to welcome back star midfielder Kiara Bowers, after she missed the last three rounds of the 2023 NAB AFLW season, from a knee injury in round four.

“She (Kiara Bowers) is a great person and the girls walked out a little bit taller having her back in the team. She leads really well on the field but also off the field," Webb said.

"I’m rapt for her to get through on some managed minutes."

Webb was not afraid to call out some of the stand-out performers from the game.

“Easty (Dana East) – she’s a fantastic player and person. She works really hard at her craft, and she got some rewards for that today,” Webb said.

“I thought Hayley Miller was really impressive today, I loved what we saw. She hit the scoreboard and laid some really important tackles for us.”

“(I am) really pleased with Gabby O’Sullivan up there too, and Meg Kauffman – they did a lot of great stuff as well.”

“In the last few weeks, Ange Stannett has been working really hard. She’s a great pressure player – I think she tried to lay 16 tackles last week and for her to get some real reward in that kind of contest was really pleasing.”

Walyalup now look ahead to round nine, as they take on top of the table Narrm at Casey Fields on Saturday 28 October.
