Walyalup Senior Coach Justin Longmuir has said Saturday’s 34-point win over the Giants was likely the team’s most complete performance of the year so far.

Speaking at his post-match media conference, Longmuir said that despite the final 10 minutes of the game, the team was in control.

“I thought we jumped into the game reasonably well and even built from that start," Longmuir said.

"Even at the start of the last quarter, we were up for the contest and playing the way we wanted to play.

"We’ve played some really good footy this year, so it’s hard to measure this performance against the Adelaide game and a few of the others.

"Our form against sides above us had been pretty solid.

"Whether it’s our most solid performance or our most consistent, it was a really strong performance.”

Speaking on the performances of several players, Longmuir said he was impressed by a complete team effort.

On Shai Bolton’s 24 disposals, three clearances and three-goal game:

“He’s added a lot to our group,” Longmuir said.

“The flexibility he provides - when he first came into the team, he was off a shorter run-up in terms of fitness, so we played him forward a bit more.

"Over the last three or four weeks, with four midfielders out, we’ve asked him to play midfield - especially the last two weeks - and he’s stood up to the challenge.

"He hit the scoreboard tonight with his time forward, but his ability to get the ball going our way is paramount to complementing Serong and Brayshaw.

"Off the field, he’s a bubbly character, likes a joke, but has a real serious side when it comes to wanting us to be a really good footy team.

"He’s been a great addition.”

On Luke Jackson’s 32 hit-outs, 21 disposals and seven clearances as the team’s main ruck:

“He’s been able to come to the Club, get to work and be a great teammate," Longmuir said.

"I thought Luke used his athleticism in the ruck contest, and what he does around the ground once the ball hits the deck - not many rucks in the competition bring that.

"He’s a real weapon for us clearly and like I said, he showed real maturity to put the week behind him and focus on his footy.”

On Andrew Brayshaw’s 30 disposals and six tackles, despite being tagged by GWS’ Toby Bedford for much of the game:

“Even when Andy did get tagged, I thought his ability to roll his sleeves up, go to work and embrace the challenge was impressive,” Longmuir said.

“You need your leaders to work through those challenges and still be able to lead and play with the right mindset when being tagged - and I thought he did that really well.

"I thought the whole midfield contributed tonight. It was a really strong midfield performance.”

On Michael Frederick’s 16 disposals, five marks, three goals and two goal assists:

“Last week, he probably just didn’t finish off his work aerially, but he was dangerous,” Longmuir said.

“Today we shifted the ball pretty well from our back half - especially from our D50 - and as soon as you get speed on the ball and Freddy is ripping back towards goal, he’s hard to stop.

"He was a benefactor of some good work up the field.”
