The Fremantle Football Club is thrilled for three-time AFLW All Australian Kiara Bowers, who announced to teammates last week that she and her partner Adele are expecting their second child in October.

Bowers was filled with nerves and excitement ahead of sharing the news with her teammates and Fremantle AFLW coach Lisa Webb.

“The build-up was very nerve racking – I’ve probably never been that nervous,” Bowers said.

“(However), getting to tell the girls is so exciting. I think they may be a bit upset that I’m not annoying them at training anymore, but every single one of them gave me a hug and couldn’t be happier for us.”

The 32-year-old midfielder and partner Adele Coxall welcomed son Nate in 2020, however, this time Bowers will be carrying their second child.

“As soon as the season ended last year, it was something we knew we were going to try and make happen, and I’m so grateful we are fortunate enough to have another kid,” Bowers said.

“Nate is amazing and I’m sure he will be a very annoying big brother.

“He (Nate) is excited. He’s already named them and is ready to meet them.”

Bowers' pregnancy will see her miss the 2024 AFLW season that begins in August.

“It’s obviously strange, it’s a different life that I’ll live for the next couple of months, but it’s exciting,” Bowers said.

“Hopefully I don’t have to adjust too much, I’ll just do non-contact stuff and spend a bit of time with the rehab girls and do a couple of sweat sessions with them.

“I love the girls and love spending time with the girls, so I’d love to be down here (at the Club). It’s still another home for me.”

Fremantle’s Head of AFLW Claire Heffernan said the Club will work with the AFL to finalise the process for a replacement player on the list.

“We are absolutely rapt for Kiara, Adele and Nate and look forward to welcoming another member into our Freo Family,” Heffernan said.

“Our list management team will work closely with the AFL on securing a new player to join our AFLW team. Although no-one can replace Turbo, we are excited at the prospect of adding a new member to our list.”
