Chris Mayne says a taste of finals footy this year has left Freo’s players hungry to do whatever it takes to get there again.

The 10-point Semi Final loss to Adelaide ended the club’s season, and while disappointed, Mayne said Freo were on the right track to achieve their goal.

“I think for the group to get a taste of finals, and for some of the senior players to get a few fingernails away from success, is definitely a driver for next year,” he said.

Mayne said Ross Lyon told the side after the Crows’ game that he thought the team had given up a good opportunity to play more finals, but the senior coach’s attention soon shifted.

“It’s now about next year, and that’s what Ross wanted all the boys to know,” Mayne said.

“It’s time for us to mentally refresh, but physically stay in shape and get ready for a big pre-season and look forward to next year.

“This playing group will stick really close together, we’ll enjoy what’s coming up, and then in November, we’ll be back and ready to go.”
