A dominant display by Fremantle midfielder Matt de Boer has helped Peel to a 21-point victory over Claremont at Medibank Stadium.

de Boer collected 36 possessions, kicked one goal, took seven marks and laid nine tackles in a best-on-ground performance.

With the Claremont Showgrounds not meeting a midweek turf inspection, the Medibank Stadium surface was bathed in sunshine as players gathered to commemorate the ANZACs.

de Boer dominated the early stages with 12 disposals and a goal that helped the Thunder to a six-point quarter-time lead.

Fremantle midfielder Connor Blakely said de Boer had been the driving force behind Peel’s strong performance.

“He (de Boer) works so hard. He gives that effort week in, week out,” Blakely said.

“(When) he gets … back to Peel, he’s not going to take it personally.

“He’s just going to work on what he needs to work on.”

As the temperature climbed to 30 degrees, goals to Brad Walsh and Fremantle's Josh Deluca saw the Thunder open an 18-point advantage early in the second term.

But the Tigers soon reeled Peel back in, reducing the deficit to just one point at the main break.

The lead changed hands several times during the second half and it took a game-breaking last-quarter goal from Rory O’Brien, who continued his amazing form with another 35 disposals, to turn the match in the Thunder’s favour.

He added a second soon after, blowing the lead out to 21 points and putting an end to the contest.

Blakely said the intensity of the game and the warm conditions made it a tough afternoon.

“Claremont are a really good side, so they gave a really good challenge today,” Blakely said.

“It was pretty physical out there … and fortunately enough, we were able to get away from them in the last quarter.”

Blakely finished his return match strongly, gathering 29 disposals and kicking a goal. He said he was pleased to be able to contribute to the win.

“I was just hoping to get through unscathed … so I was really happy with that.”

Fremantle’s Ethan Hughes also made a successful return from injury, gathering an impressive 23 disposals as he swung between defence and attack.

Ed Langdon’s 29 disposals and 11 marks showed the Fremantle hierarchy he had been working hard to improve his impact around the ground.

Anthony Morabito got through his second outing after almost two years on the sidelines.
