Fremantle midfielder Nathan Fyfe is now leading the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year Award after his best afield performance against Melbourne on Saturday.

The 22-year-old star claimed all 10 possible votes after his 29-possession game against the Demons.

He now leads the field with 75 votes; three clear of injured Gold Coast Suns captain Gary Ablett.

2013 Doig Medallist Fyfe recently signed a new three-year deal to keep him at Freo until the end of 2017 and has since been joined in putting pen to paper by David Mundy and Matthew Pavlich.

Fremantle captain Pavlich said it was extremely important for the club to lock in both Fyfe and Mundy.

“(They’re) two players at differing stages of their careers, but incredibly important to our midfield group and to the group in general,” he said.

“Two leaders in their own right who are really well spoken and driving the club to really high standards and setting the tone with accountability and the player-driven culture that we talk about.

“I’m really pleased that both of them can stay for a further three years and I’m really excited at what that means for the club.”
