Fremantle made a conservative approach in subbing ruckman Sean Darcy out of the game against Richmond at the weekend, according to High Performance Manager Phil Merriman.

Darcy came to the bench in the third quarter of the clash, replaced on-field by starting substitute Nat Fyfe.

Merriman confirmed Darcy would be a test to play in this week’s Perth Radiological Clinic injury update.

“Sean came off with some very low-level calf tightness and obviously off a five-day break we took a conservative approach,” Merriman said.

“He came into the Club today and is clinically quite sound.

“We’ll see how his week progresses with a plan for him to play."

Sam Switkowski will need to get through contact training this week before putting up his hand for selection in Friday night’s clash with Sydney.

The small forward has missed the past three matches after suffering delayed concussion following the round five loss to Port Adelaide.

“Switta has to pass the final hurdle in his concussion protocols which is contact training,” Merriman said.

“We’ll be looking to do that in main training this week.”

Young winger Nathan O’Driscoll’s frustrating run with a knee injury has continued, with a timeline on his return still to be determined.

“Unfortunately, he had another occurrence of that knee injury so we are just going through the process and gathering more information as we speak,” Merriman said.

“We’ll have more information on timelines after consulting with the specialist."

Meanwhile, key defender Brennan Cox is progressing well as he eyes a return to football following the mid-season bye, while young wingman Ethan Stanley joined the AFL travel squad to Melbourne late last week to get further information on an ankle injury.

“Coxy is progressing well, he is up to about 60 percent running speed and is doing about six kilometres of volume in his running sessions – he is going really well,” Merriman said.

“Ethan is actually seeing the specialist today and we’ll get some more information on his return to play timelines.”
