Alex Silvagni has been included in Fremantle’s 25-man squad for Sunday’s Carlton Mid Derby.

He appears to be the logical replacement for Luke McPharlin, who comes out of the team with a calf injury.

The other inclusions were Lachie Neale, Cam Sutcliffe and Matt Taberner.

The final 22 will be named on fremantlefc.com.au at 2.30pm on Friday.

Freo general manager offootball Chris Bond said Silvagni was the player most likely to replace McPharlin.

“We’ve still got to get through training tomorrow, we’ll have a better idea to finalise the team then,” he said.

Second-year player Neale had an interrupted pre-season and has battled injury for the majority of the 2013 season.

But he has been able to play four out of the past five WAFL games for Swan Districts, including a 34-possession effort last weekend.

“He’s come back from injury and he’s been able to put a good couple of games together,” Bond said.

“We were really pleased with his game on the weekend, so he’s also in contention.”

Young forward Taberner has come from the rookie list to play two games before being omitted for last week’s game against St Kilda.

“It’s been a terrific year for Matt, considering where he’s come from,” Bond said.

“He’s had a real taste for it this year and there’s no doubt he’s going to get his chance at some stage.”

Bond said it was a similar case for Sutcliffe, who has played nine games this season.

“He’s proven that he can play at the level, and for a second-year player that’s really important,” he said.

“We’ve got a few players banging down the door, which is very good for the depth of our club.”
