Ross Lyon has nominated Michael Johnson as a Fremantle frontrunner for All Australian selection in 2014.

The selection committee for the prestigious representative team met this week.

Lyon told Melbourne radio station 3AW his 2013 All Australian defender has so far been on track to go back to back.

“Michael would probably be leading our best and fairest at this point,” he said.

“Aaron’s (Sandilands) best has been very good but he’s probably been a bit up and down.

“I think (David) Mundy and (Nat) Fyfe have again been very good.

“They’re the ones that stand out to me.

“If you talk about esteemed company, the highest level, the most consistent has been Michael Johnson.

Herald Sun and Fox Footy journalist Mark Robinson concurred with the Freo senior coach.

‘Robbo’ selected Johnson on the half-back line in his mid-year All Australian team, along with Sandilands in the ruck and Fyfe on the interchange.

“Johnson is a 196cm half-back who is one of a kind,” Robinson wrote in the Herald Sun.

Johnson’s chances of selection may be hampered by a knee injury that will sideline him for up to six weeks.
