Geelong will contest Steve Johnson's one-game ban at the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night.

Johnson was offered a one-game ban for kneeing North Melbourne opponent Scott Thompson during the first quarter of Saturday's match at Etihad Stadium.

If the challenge is unsuccessful the Cats' star will miss two matches, against Fremantle this Saturday night and Carlton the following week.

It wouldn't be the first time the Cat has missed a game against Freo because of suspension. He sat out the 2012 Elimination Final, which Freo won, and last year's round 14 fixture at Simonds Stadium.
