Fremantle captain Matthew Pavlich says the club’s young list gives promise for season 2015 and beyond, following Freo’s 22-point Semi-Final defeat to Port Adelaide last night.

Port came back from 31 points down late in the second term to stun the Patersons Stadium crowd in the second half.

“Outside a couple of old blokes still running around, we’ve got a really young list and a lot of those guys have played a huge amount of football…that’s where the improvement is going to come and the growth,” Pavlich said.

“We’ve seen that over the last couple of years and we’re really confident we can lick our wounds and really learn where we need to get better.”

Pavlich had a quiet night by his normally high standards and the Freo superstar said he feels quite numb after the game the club was confident of winning.

“It’s quite a hollow feeling right now, all the guys are shattered and like our members and fans are really disappointed,” he said.

“I think there were some positives early…the first half we really dominated and played some powerful football early in the game but probably just didn’t execute, which I was a part of in front of goal and also with the ball use and some decisions with that.”

“We’re going to have to improve. Reality is we weren’t good enough, Port were too good and they beat us on the night.”

The Power have now advanced to a Preliminary Final date at the MCG with 2013 premiers Hawthorn and Pavlich doesn’t even want to think about it at this stage.

“I haven’t thought about it, I may not watch it but we’ll wait and see,” he said.

The Freo captain reiterated his thanks to the club’s members and supporters for being there every step of the way but vowed to repay them in 2015.

“They’re fantastic, they’re probably hurting just as much as us right now,” he said. “To see all the purple around throughout the week and at the game last night was tremendous.

“The message is ‘we’re really disappointed and we’re going to do everything we can to really improve and get better again next year.’”

Pavlich, 32, signed a one-year contract extension in July to see him play on with Fremantle for a 16th AFL season.

When asked if a premiership was still in the picture for him, his answer was simple.

“That’s the plan.”
