Fremantle ruckman Aaron Sandilands says he is already looking forward to the pre-season, following the club’s Semi-Final loss to Port Adelaide on Saturday.

The 31-year-old capped an outstanding individual year by being selected in the 40-man Virgin All Australian squad, which will be trimmed to 22 tomorrow night.

Sandilands played 23 out of a possible 24 games in season 2014 and was also able to receive a clean bill of health from the club’s medical department over the weekend.

“I’m surgery free, so going to enjoy a couple of weeks break now and then looking forward to the next pre-season,” Sandilands said.

“I’m still loving rocking up to training everyday and enjoying the challenge.

“I’m contracted for next year and if I can stay fit and healthy and if I’m still loving it, I can’t see why I wouldn’t keep going.”

The three-time All Australian said the aim for Freo is to improve on this season.

“We’ve got some great youth coming through on the list and all of our young players are improving and improving quickly,” he said.

“It’s an exciting time for the footy club.”

Sandilands identified the midfield group’s clearance work as one key area that needs to get better.

“We realised we weren’t as consistent this year, I think there’s bits and pieces there that we will work on throughout the summer and improve on,” he said.

“The more time you can spend more time on the track practicing your craft, the better off you’ll be.

“We’ve got some great midfielders and the chemistry is only going to improve the more time we spend out on the park.”

The continued chemistry between Sandilands and fellow ruckman Zac Clarke was another highlight of the year.

Clarke missed out on a full pre-season due to injury, but Sandilands believes he will be better for the journey if he can complete a full summer program.

“Zac’s a great athlete… I’m sure he’ll come back ready and raring next year,” he said.

“He’s a great young man and he’s got so much up side.

“He’s one of those players that I’m sure can take the next step for us and keep heading in the right direction.”
