Some great Indigenous names from Freo’s past will be actively involved in the upcoming Indigenous Camp and All Stars game.

The week long camp will culminate with a game between the Indigenous All Stars and the West Coast Eagles at Medibank Stadium on Friday 20 February.

Dale Kickett, Antoni Grover, Troy Cook and Des Headland will all play their parts during the week.

Grover has been named as an assistant to head coach Andy Lovell.

“I’m really looking forward to it, having played in this game a couple of times myself,” he said.

“I will look after the backline, but the instruction is going to be pretty simple: go and play your own game and enjoy it.

“There’s nothing better than a few of us Freo boys helping out the All Stars team against the Eagles.”

Cook and Headland will be runners, although both former Freo stars are a bit nervous of their duty.

“I might have to bring out the notebook to make sure I get the message across that ‘Groves’ wants as well as Andy Lovell,” Cook said.

Headland wasn’t exactly confident in his ability to run out the game.

“I told Ash McGrath that he might have to sub me out at half-time, because I’ll probably be hanging,” he said.

“I might need the oxygen tank after half-time because I haven’t been running much.”

Kickett will help out with the footy clinics and school visits throughout the week.

“Apart from that, I’ll go along and enjoy the game,” he said.
