Fremantle recruit Lachie Weller is enjoying giving back to the community – just as AFL players had done for him a few years ago.

The 19-year-old grew up in Tasmania and later moved to the Gold Coast.

He was visiting schools in Geraldton and the Midwest on Wednesday and Thursday as part of the Fremantle Dockers' 2015 AFL Community Camp.

Weller said it had been a great experience.

“It was good to see the smiles on the kids' faces,” he said.

“You don’t realise how much they get out of you coming to talk to them.

“It’s good to give back to the community and hopefully the kids have taken something out of it, which would be good.”

Weller said the visits from AFL clubs to his schools when he was young were still fresh in his mind.

“Down in Tassie we had Hawthorn come down a few times, and up on the Gold Coast we had the Suns,” he said.

“It was always exciting to be around AFL players.”
