Fremantle played its second intra-club match in a week as purples took on whites on Friday morning.

LIVE CHAT: Recap the game

As was the case last Saturday, the purple team featured mostly regular AFL players, while the white team had a splattering of stars mixed with young Freo Dockers and Peel Thunder top-up players.

The purples won the game by 10 goals, but it was far closer than last week’s intra-club.

It started at the stoppages, where ruckman Jon Griffin and midfielders Michael BarlowTendai Mzungu and Lachie Neale gave the whites strong drive.

Youngsters Max Duffy, Lachie WellerConnor Blakely and Josh Deluca also did some very nice things for the white team.

Perhaps the highlight of the intra-club was white team defender Chris Mayne’s battle with captain Matthew Pavlich.

The pair didn’t hold back and fought every contest fiercely, ultimately breaking even before Pavlich left the game at half-time.

Some star names were missing, including Aaron Sandilands, Nat Fyfe and Garrick Ibbotson, while young forward Matt Taberner did not play.

Luke McPharlin looked strong in defence for the purples and forwards Hayden Ballantyne and Michael Walters were also dangerous.

David Mundy starred in a half-back/midfield role after half-time, as did Stephen Hill, whose dashing run and class was very damaging.

Freo will now prepare to face Melbourne in its first NAB Challenge game at Fremantle Oval on Thursday 5 March.
