Emerging midfielder Tommy Sheridan left no stone unturned to press his claims for a spot in Fremantle’s best 22 with an impressive performance against West Coast.
 
Sheridan had 27 possessions while playing midfield and he also spent some time in defence.

“I’ve been challenged during the week and it’s such a hard team to get a spot and I’m desperate for a spot,” he said.
 
“Going down back was a bit new for me today, but it was a great challenge and I’ve got some great support around me.
 
“There’s a lot of leaders; (Luke) McPharlin, (Lee) Spurr, (Michael) Johnson to name a few.
 
“As long as I play my role and give effort that’s all I’m worrying about.”

The 21-year old recieved praise from Ross Lyon following the match, for his hard work in the pre-season.

"He’s an absolute pro now in how he conditions himself and trains," Lyon said.

Freo takes on Port Adelaide in a fortnight for round one and Sheridan thought Sunday’s 19-point win against West Coast was an ideal hit-out.
 
“It was intense; it’s the third one we’ve had so far,” he said.
 
“We’ve had a real good pre-season, it’s good to get through March now and head into the real season.
 
“We’re quietly confident but as we know, this week doesn’t stand for anything, so we have to bring that effort and intensity (again).”
 
Sheridan has been a standout on the track over the off-season, returning as one of the team’s fittest players.
 
He said the team just wants the real season to begin.
 
“The boys are raring to go,” Sheridan said.
 
“We’re glad to get this one out of the way and we’re really excited.
 
“There’s a few to come in but it’s going to be hard for spots.
 
“All of the boys have been training well, we’ve had a great pre-season.
 
“This is what we’ve been training for, round one, and hopefully we can start off with a win.”
