Fremantle midfielder Nick Suban is close to selection this weekend after his hamstring injury was listed as a test in the HBF Injury Update.

Match preview: Fremantle v Port Adelaide

Suban injured his hamstring in the opening minutes against West Coast in the third NAB Challenge game just over a week ago and he was substituted out of the game.

Sports science manager Jason Weber said Suban’s injury was not as bad as first thought.

“Nick presented really well after that (initial injury),” he said.

“We really took some precautions with him early and again he’s trained exceptionally to this point, he’s had a great summer.”

In promising news for the forward line, emerging tall Matt Taberner, All Australian star Hayden Ballantyne and fellow small Hayden Crozier were all listed as tests.

Utility Tendai Mzungu was another key star now available for selection should he get through training.

“Those guys have done a fantastic job in their rehab,” Weber said.

“Some of the issues they’ve faced haven’t been that significant, so they’ve trained really well.

“We look to put them into training tomorrow and obviously if they can get through that session well, then they’ll be available for Ross Lyon and the match committee.”

Fremantle takes on Port Adelaide at Domain Stadium on Easter Sunday, 5 April.
