Port Adelaide captain Travis Boak is just one of a host of Power stars that the Freo midfield will need to contain in Sunday’s round 1 opener.

Talking points ahead of Sunday's game

With the absence of Ryan Crowley, several names have been thrown up to fill the tagging role.

But Fremantle senior coach Ross Lyon isn’t sure what the approach will be just yet.

“We’ve identified the options, which are don’t tag, tag, or go hot and cold,” Lyon said.

“We’ll explore all those options. We’ll get through today.

“The obvious one is Clancee (Pearce), who had a (tagging) role against Sydney but he didn’t do a role against West Coast.

“Which is significant in itself because normally in your last game you do what you’re going to do (in round 1).

“I’m prepared to be flexible and maybe just wait and see. Boak’s been a target, (Stephen) Hill’s been their target.

“Maybe a team attitude to both. You need a contingency approach.”

While Lyon didn’t declare a run-with role for any Freo players, he suggested Boak would still get some close attention.

“I know he’s a pretty special player and he was a great person in the International Rules Series,” Lyon said.

“But he’ll be the enemy come Sunday.

“It’ll be a team attitude to all the opposition players. We’ll put some time into him. If we think we’re just going to roll around and let Travis do what he does, then Travis is going to have a pretty good day.

“We’ll get goal side of him, check him, make sure he’s made to be accountable and attack him at the right time.

“There’s a lot of stock-standards in AFL footy and that’s one of them.”
