Fremantle’s experience at Simonds Stadium last weekend has better prepared the team for West Coast’s home fans this Sunday in the Carlton Draught Derby, according to senior coach Ross Lyon.

Freo dominate Cats

The round 3 match is an Eagles home game, but Lyon is looking forward to another challenge of Freo playing in front of a crowd with the majority cheering for the opposition.

“You normally roll up to Domain Stadium and it’s full of your supporters, but (this week) it’s going to be full of the other mob,” Lyon said.

“But that’s a great challenge in itself to remain focused and keep the intensity when it’s full opposition.

“I think Simonds Stadium has been great preparation, it’s a pretty hostile environment.

“We look forward to the challenge.”

Former Eagles insider to help Freo win ruck battle

Freo will also play its round 4 Len Hall Tribute match against Sydney at Domain Stadium the following week, meaning no travel for Lyon’s players.

“It’s a luxury and we’ll take it, but it’s not something I focus on,” he said.

“We stay in the moment, do what we need to do.

“It’s great not to have to jump on the bird, there’s no doubt about that.

“Any time you can get two in a row at home is fantastic.”

Freo takes on West Coast in the Carlton Draught Derby on Sunday 19 April.
