Stephen Hill starred in Fremantle’s 30-point Carlton Draught Derby win over West Coast, kicking three goals and having 30 possessions as the midfielders again influenced the contest.

Hill finishes with class

Hill said it was an aim of Freo to have its midfield brigade pushing forward in season 2015.

“As a midfield group we want to make sure we’re hitting the scoreboard as well, not just relying on the forwards to kick all the goals,” Hill said.

“We want to make sure we get a good amount of midfielders kicking goals each week.”

Ross Glendinning Medallist Lachie Neale also kicked three against the Eagles and Hill said senior coach Ross Lyon wants the team to be more attacking this year.

Lucky bounce for Lachie

“He wants us to be able to push forward and make the other opposition midfielders accountable and kick goals on them,” Hill said.

“We want to keep doing that each week as it helps with the scoreboard.”

Freo came out of the blocks firing and equalled its highest-ever first quarter score with 56 points.

Freo's first quarter blitz

The lead extended out to 79 points early in the third quarter, but Hill said poor skills allowed the Eagles back into the game.

“We thought the third quarter wasn’t too bad, we just turned it over with our ball use a bit,” Hill said.

“In the fourth quarter, we were just a bit sloppy.

“It’s a credit to West Coast, they really came at us and put the pressure on us.

“We’ll work through a few things in the week and hopefully improve for next week.”

Freo will now prepare to take on Sydney in arguable the match of the round on Anzac Day.

Hill can’t wait to take on one of the league’s benchmark teams.

“It’s going to be a tough game…they’re really good in the midfield and up forward they’ve got some tall big men with Buddy (Lance Franklin) and (Kurt) Tippett.

“It’s going to be a really tough game but hopefully we can get over the line.”
