Sydney Swans defender Nick Smith is expected to be fit to tackle Fremantle at Domain Stadium on Saturday night.

MATCH PREVIEW

Smith was a late withdrawal from last week’s game against Greater Western Sydney due to some tightness in his groin.

After training well on Tuesday afternoon the All Australian defender is set to board the plane to Perth on Wednesday.

General Manager of Football Tom Harley said every precaution was taken with ensuring Smith did not suffer any major setback.

“He was a little bit tight, developed a little bit of tightness throughout the week and we gave him every opportunity to get himself up for last week,” Harley told the HCF injury update.

“Given the importance he has with our back six and also the team we wanted to make sure we gave him every opportunity to play out the season injury free.”

“We took a really conservative approach. He got through training today and will head over to Perth on Wednesday so barring any setbacks we imagine he will line up on Saturday.”

Young forward Isaac Heeney is also set to travel to Perth despite being subbed off later in Saturday’s win over the Giants.

Heeney slammed into the goal post as he kicked his fourth goal of the game before slowly getting to his feet.

Harley confirmed there were no major injury concerns for the rising star nominee.

“He was subbed immediately out of the game for precautionary reasons as he was a little bit sore but as to how it has impacted his week it hasn’t,” he said.

“He has recovered really well and he will look forward to his first trip over West as an AFL player so he has a clean bill of health and will be ready to tackle Freo.”

Fremantle take on Sydney on Saturday 25 April in the 20th annual Len Hall Tribute Match at Domain Stadium.
