Fremantle had 10 individual goal kickers in a dominant 68-point win over Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday.

Chris Mayne booted a game high of four goals, while young tall forward Matt Taberner kicked two.

Freo’s midfielders continue to hit the scoreboard with Lachie Neale, David MundyNick Suban and Danyle Pearce all slotting two goals each.

Nat Fyfe, who had 30 touches including one goal, said losing forwards Michael Walters and Matthew Pavlich in the first half left a big hole in the forward line.

“We had some real challenges with Pav and Sonny going down,” he said.

“We have some really good midfield depth at the moment and guys going forward kicking goals.”

Gutsy win over Melbourne: McPharlin

Speaking to Fox Footy, Fyfe said after Melbourne fought back in the second quarter, senior coach Ross Lyon’s message was simply, do the basics well.

“We wrestled it onto our terms,” he said

“We are a back to the wall side, we like fighting our way out of things.

“It was just the basic things, win the ball inside, stop them getting first use.”
